All eight sections are shown in full, including the disclosures about Plaid, Gmail, and financial account access.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, such as your name, email address, business details, and financial account data that you choose to connect to the Blackgrid platform.

You may optionally provide a business owner's Social Security number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). These personal tax identifiers are stored encrypted, with only their last four digits shown in your business profile. Providing one does not verify someone's identity or authorize a credit inquiry.

2. How We Use Information

We use your information to provide, maintain, and improve our services, personalize your experience, communicate with you, and support security and fraud prevention.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with trusted service providers that help operate our platform, and when required by law or to protect our legal rights. Data obtained through Google APIs (such as Gmail) is subject to stricter, additional limits described in Section 5 below, which take precedence over this general section for that data.

Business name, location and website may be sent to a third-party data provider to identify comparable businesses.

4. Financial Data Access and Third-Party Services

Blackgrid uses third-party service providers, including Plaid Inc. ("Plaid"), to securely connect to and retrieve financial account data on your behalf. By using Blackgrid, you authorize Blackgrid and Plaid to access your financial information as necessary to provide our services.

Plaid collects and processes your financial data in accordance with its own Privacy Policy. We only access the data necessary to provide analytics, insights, and platform functionality, and we do not store your banking credentials.

You may revoke access to your financial data at any time by disconnecting your accounts within the application.

To learn how Plaid handles your data, review their End User Privacy Policy:

5. Google User Data (Gmail Integration)

If you choose to connect your Gmail account, Blackgrid requests read-only access (the gmail.readonly scope) to identify finance-related emails — invoices, receipts, payment confirmations, bank and card statements, subscription renewals, and payroll notices — and extract transaction details (amount, vendor, date) from them. This data supplements your connected bank data to give Blackgrid's AI financial assistant more complete, timely context about your business. We never use it to calculate your core Blackgrid Score, which is derived solely from your connected bank data.

To identify relevant messages, Blackgrid temporarily examines Gmail message metadata and, when necessary, message contents during a sync. We retain only messages classified as finance-related. Unrelated personal messages are not stored in Blackgrid's email database.

Blackgrid's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular:

  • We use Gmail data only to identify finance-related messages and deliver the features you requested. Messages that are not finance-related are discarded after classification rather than retained in our database.
  • We never send, modify, or delete any email, and we never use Gmail data to serve advertisements of any kind, including retargeting.
  • We do not sell Gmail information or share it for advertising. To provide optional AI CFO features, relevant Gmail-derived financial context may be sent to OpenAI's API and processed by infrastructure service providers necessary to operate the app, subject to applicable safeguards.
  • No human at Blackgrid reads your Gmail data, except in the narrow circumstances Google's policy permits: with your affirmative consent for a specific support request, to investigate a security incident or policy violation, to comply with applicable law, or where the data has been aggregated and anonymized for internal operations.

Blackgrid's AI financial assistant is powered by OpenAI's API. Data derived from your Gmail messages that is sent to OpenAI for this purpose is not used by OpenAI to train or improve its foundational or generalized AI/ML models — this is OpenAI's standard API data usage policy, separate and distinct from their consumer ChatGPT product. Gmail-derived data is sent through our intended direct OpenAI API integration for user-facing financial assistance, not to train a generalized AI model. The use of raw or derived user data received from Google Workspace APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements, and will never be used to create, train, or improve any foundational or generalized machine learning or AI model.

You can disconnect Gmail at any time from Integrations in your account settings. Disconnecting disables Blackgrid's Gmail access, removes locally stored OAuth credentials, and requests token revocation from Google. It also removes imported Gmail messages and transactions derived from those messages in our active database. Independently obtained bank transactions remain intact. Backup copies and records required by law are subject to applicable retention and deletion procedures.

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information. No system is completely secure, but we continuously work to improve our protections.

7. Your Choices

You may request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us. You can also manage connected accounts and permissions within your application settings. You can replace or remove an optional owner SSN or ITIN from the Owner Information screen at any time.
